Four Michigan authors of young-adult literature will be featured at Greetings From Michigan, a program presented by Book Beat and Baldwin Public Library.
Amy Ackley’s debut novel, “Sign Language,” follows Abby North, whose father has cancer, while Tracey Bilen’s “What She Left Behind” is a thriller about a teen whose mother goes missing.
Beth Neff’s “Getting Somewhere” is set on a small farm that is a detention and rehabilitation center for girls. In Lara Zielin’s “The Waiting Sky,” teen Jane McAllister’s alcoholic mother drives drunk and nearly kills Jane and her friend.

3 new exhibits at art center
Three new exhibits involving faces and fiber will be in the spotlight at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center.
Portraits are the focus of exhibits by Jeff Cancelosi, who uses ink stamping, and Dean Rogers, who works with colored pencil.
For “Voices, a Fiber Invitational,” nine Michigan fiber artists — Jill Ault, Kathie Briggs, Barbara Bushey, Anne Hiemstra, Sue Holdaway Heys, Lynn Krawczyk, Carol L. Myers, Joan Potter Thomas and Desiree Vaughn — use line, color, shape and texture to convey mood, emotion and meaning.

Hydroplane races at Quake on the Lake
Hydroplane boats will maneuver a watery course at great speeds at the APBA Racing 13th annual Quake on the Lake.
