Glassblowers hosting a spring fling
Hollow and solid glass eggs, bird nests and glass birds will be the stars of a spring-themed glassblowing event this weekend at Dearborn’s Glass Academy Gallery.
“The glassblowers will use a feathering technique that is centuries old and goes back to ancient Egypt,” says Michelle Plucinsky, who owns the gallery with Chris Nordin. “It features two colors of glass wrapped around the egg shape, and a special tool is used to pull and push the color on the surface so that it will create a delicate line of feathering.”
Most items for sale in the gallery are priced from $40 to $95; specialty items cost more. Custom orders are available.
10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Glass Academy Gallery, 25331 Trowbridge, Dearborn. 313-561-4527 or www.glassacademy.com. Free.

Friday’s event comes with food, entertainment and a silent auction. Also on the agenda: a cash bar, door prizes, raffles and a 50/50 drawing. People who bring a 10-pound or larger bag of dog food will be entered into a drawing for the grand prize of a suite for a Detroit Red Wings game.
